Moving Tips
  • Contact removals companies, get surveys, if necessary
  • Choose and book a slot with a removals company
  • Purchase packing materials (your removals company should be able to supply you with these)
  • Finalize sales or rental agreements
  • Give all your important contacts your new address (e.g. banks, building societies, insurance companies, credit card companies, doctors, friends, family, etc)
  • Use google maps to find maps of your new neighbourhood and to familiarize yourself and your family with your new area
  • Work-out your moving budget
  • Inform service providers of your move (e.g. gas, electric, water, cable, telephone, etc)
  • Sign up for services at your new address
  • Recruit moving-day help
Packing Tips
  • Ensure you have access to the following:
    • Boxes
    • Strong bin bags (cheap method of packing clothes, bed linen, towels,etc)
    • Bubble wrap or other cushioning material
    • Marker pens
    • Old blankets (to use for cushioning your fragile items)
    • Packing tape and scissors
    • Money and credit cards (keep these in a safe place)
  • Label each box with the room in the new home to which it should be delivered.
  • Number the boxes and keep a list of what is in each box.
  • Clearly mark fragile items by using marker pen or fragile sealing tape.
  • Pack a bag of personal items you'll need during the move (change of clothes, toiletries, medicine, maps, food, and drinks). Keep it in an easy-to-find place when you pack.
